Identified ticking sound coming from inside the timing chain cover, removed the valve cover to further inspect and observed that the chain was loose and the tensioner was slack. replaced the tensioner and changed the oil, retested and found that the ticking sound was still there. verified that oil pressure was ok. Noticed a significant amount of metal shavings in oil.
